Weer net als ik dit jaar door de majesteit overgeslagen? Geen lintje gekregen omdat je 35 jaar lid van het kerkkoor was, je hele leven aardig hebt verdiend als beroemd zanger, jarenlang gewoon je plicht hebt gedaan als ambtenaar of 15 jaar als gemeenteraadslid hebt zitten slapen?

Nee, ik ben niet teleurgesteld. Soms krijg je meer waardering door warme woorden van een ander. Wordt je gewoon even stil. Erga Netz, producer van de documentaire ‘Summer, Autumn, WAR, Spring‘ kreeg dit voor elkaar, toen ze dit schreef over me:

“We met Ton some 12 years ago, when we produced a TV documentary titled ‘Summer, Autumn, WAR, Spring’. It was the story of Bosnian, Croat and Muslim children of war and the letter they sent to the Anne Frank House during the war in ex-Yugoslavia.

Ton was a major force in helping these children during the war, by mobilizing his pupils and the whole community, politicians and the Dutch Army to collect presents and send packages to the children in Bosnia. When we brought the children for a one week visit to Holland, Ton organized their visit the best way possible.
We were very touched and amazed by his kindness, coupled with organizational talents, love for his work and powers of conviction.
We couldn’t think of a better person to be the Gangmaker and project leader for Project ‘communicatie scholen Bosnie en Nederland’. He’s already done it, and very successfully!”
